The Metropolitan Museum's collection contains more than two million works of art from all points of the compass, ancient through modern times. About 6,500 objectshighlights from each of the Museum's curatorial departments as well as the entire Department of European Paintings and the entire Department of American Paintings and Sculpturecan be accessed online.
Highlights Include: American Wing - Historical paintings and sculpture from colonial times through the early 20th century.
Egyptian Art Collection - It ranks among the finest outside Cairo and includes 36,000 objects of artistic, historical, and cultural importance. Be sure to see the Temple of Dendur presented to the United States as a gift from the Egyptian government.
European Painting - Major canvases, panels and frescoes by Italian, Flemish, Dutch, French, Spanish, and British masters, from the 12th through the 19th century.

Directions: From East Side of Manhattan: Take the train to 86th Street and walk three blocks west to Fifth Avenue; or take the M1, M2, M3, or M4 bus along Fifth Avenue (from uptown locations) to 82nd Street or along Madison Avenue (from downtown locations) to 83rd Street.
From West Side of Manhattan: Take the train to 86th Street, then the M86 crosstown bus across Central Park to Fifth Avenue.
From Penn Station: Take the M4 bus to 83rd Street and Madison Avenue.
