Things to Do in the Neighborhood:
The Upper West side is a residential area West of Central Park, Starting at Columbus Circle it is perhaps the cultural center of the city, with Lincoln Center, a 16 acre campus that include many venue: theaters, auditoriums, and location of the New York City Ballet, New York Philharmonic, and the New York City Opera. The New Time Warner Center offers shopping as well as Jazz at Lincoln Center. Another popular area sight is the Dakota Apartments Building, spot where John Lennon was shot. Across the street in Central Park is the memorial Strawberry Fields - there is always a crowd. Moving uptown to 79th is the American Museum of Natural History featuring the popular Rose Space Center, a good Kid Pick. Don't overlook the New York Historical Society right next door. It is New York's oldest Museum. Up at 83rd Street is the Children's Museum of Manhattan. Along the Hudson River is Riverside Park, it is near many of the Late 19th Century townhouses that were typical in this area and has many historic monuments (Soldiers and Sailors Monument).
Some of the more famous eateries are H&H Bagels near Broadway and 80th, across the street be sure to check out the Gourmet Landmark Zabars Food Market. Another very popular Upper West Side Restaurant is Ruby Foos, near Broadway and 78th. Located in Central Park West is the Landmark Tavern on the Green. If you like the idea of staying in a more residential area of Manhattan consider some of the Hotel Accommodations on the Upper West Side. |
